Sarah currently lectures on writing and design in the Centre for Arts, Design and Information Technology at Toronto's George Brown College. She spent five years training online writers at Suite101.com, and is available for seminars  on writing and a range of cultural topics, including culinary and fashion history.

What's new?

  • Sarah's latest book, Jam, Jelly and Marmalade, A Global History, is scheduled to be published in Reaktion Books' Edible Series in June 2021.
  • On Thursday, March 4, Sarah will offer an illustrated virtual lecture for the Culinary Historians of Canada on "The Marmalade Mavens", about the fascinating rise and fall of the world's great marmalade makers. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
  • Her last book, We Sure Can! How Jams and Pickles are Reviving the Lure and Lore of Local Food, was shortlisted for Taste Canada—The Food Writing Awards in the category "Single-Subject Cookbooks".

Recent Public Appearances

  • June 2020: Sarah was shortlisted for Best Series at the National Magazine Awards: B2B for her four-part profile of the Canadian restaurant industry in Foodservice & Hospitality magazine, which covered the Pacific coast, the Prairies, central Canada and the Atlantic provinces.
  • ​July 2019: An illustrated lecture on Canadian foodways since Confederation to the Elgin and Area Heritage Society in Elgin, Ontario.
